Central committee leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has warned that the Maoists could resort to politics of negation if they were given free hand in the government. Speaking at an interaction organised by Civic Awareness Promotion Center on Saturday, he said the Maoists had already shown signs of authoritarian rule by beating up opponents across the country.
He stressed that the issue of army integration should be settled before the new government is formed.
But, Maoist representative in the Constituent Assembly (CA) Khim Lal Devkota said that the NC and CPN (UML) were doing nasty bargaining for power.
He also expressed surprise over 'double standard' displayed by the NC on the issue of two-third majority to appoint and remove the Prime Minister and integration of army. "If the NC is to lead, the provision remains okay and the same becomes a bad idea in case another party comes to lead the government," said Devkota.
Human rights activist Subodh Raj Pyakurel accused the Maoists of beating and chasing the opponents away for not casting votes for them in the CA elections.
He asked why the Maoists leadership promised to take action against their cadres responsible for crime by themselves instead of handing them over for legal action. "The maximum action they can take is to remove the person from the party," he said, questioning if removing a criminal from the party was sufficient.
